Jonathan Anderson: Summer Daze

The latest Loewe Paula’s Ibiza collection channels the sun-drenched beauty and carefree spirit of the island.

'Ibiza is filled with personal memories of summers on the island. The spirit of letting go is, for me, forever associated with this unique place,’ says Loewe’s creative director Jonathan Anderson of his Loewe Paula’s Ibiza collection, which first launched in 2017. A celebration of the island’s vibrant summer ambience, the collection hits the stores once again with the same attitude.

‘The carefree spirit of seaside dressing, carried from the beach right into the everyday,’ is how Anderson characterises the collection. And it’s probably the best way to describe the heartfelt homage to the original Paula’s Ibiza boutique, which opened in the 1970s – an iconic store and storied meeting spot where the island’s creatives, musicians and bohemian spirits gathered over the years.

The formula is simple yet strong: uncomplicated pieces of clothing and accessories for men and women, designed to be easy to wear and, according to Anderson, ‘craft-led, lit by the touch of the hand’. Weaving, braiding and texture define the pieces, ranging from crochet dresses to real alocasia leaves morphed into tops. ‘Summer is heralded as a way of being, not just a season: a mindset that works all year long, a happily energising one,’ he says.

To capture this idyllic, sun-drenched vision of summer, Anderson once again invited photographer Gray Sorrenti to create a new portfolio with the international creative Loewe community. British singer, songwriter, artist and model Alewya, Spanish artist Bad Gyal, American professional big wave surfer Mason Hyce Barnes, Spanish singer and songwriter Guitarricadelafuente, American model and actress Emily Ratajkowski, American travel vlogger and TikTok star Devin Halbal and Colombian singer and songwriter Karol G star in the colourful campaign, shot in Ibiza and also in Colombia, where some of the collection is produced. Loewe Paula’s Ibiza has a close connection with Colombia: for every basket made with iraca palm and for the Loewe Font Tote in woven raffia, Loewe will donate €15 to educational projects in local communities, which make these pieces by hand. Donations will also help to create an education programme in Colombia and establish a craft training school in Madagascar.

"The spirit of letting go, is for me, forever associated with THIS UNIQUE PLACE."
