Like Living Inside a Poem: Annie Doble’s guide to her Dalt Vila neighbourhood.
The charismatic founder of the fashion boutique Annie’s Ibiza has lived in Dalt Vila for ten years. She gives us her tips for the best tables, the hippest galleries and the most under-the-radar hangouts in Ibiza’s UNESCO-protected Old Town.
La Oliva.
This is absolutely my top spot. It’s a French restaurant directly opposite my shop, and I eat there almost every night. It’s so pretty, with little wooden tables and the most charming atmosphere. My favourite dish if I’m feeling naughty is the famous macaroons – they are to die for.
La Scala.
This is my secret place! I love La Scala, it’s a hidden gem that’s been there for years. There are only about eight tables, and they sit beneath a canopy of trees. It’s candlelit and so romantic.
Bar San Ciriaco.
I love walking to the top of the castle by the church at the top at night and looking at the twinkly view of Ibiza. I always stop to have an obligatory drink at David’s tiny bar on the way down. It’s basically a window in the wall and he makes dangerous sangria!
La Plaza.
My friend Marcelo’s restaurant is right in the main square. There’s a special dish on the menu that he made for me – creamy truffle pasta! Just ask for Annie’s dish.
Kyuppido
Kyupiddo is a phenomenal restaurant behind the Torre de Canonigo hotel at the top of the castle. It has the most incredible view so ask for the table closest to the view. It’s the most beautiful sunset spot and the sushi is to die for.
Mediaeval Festival.
A wild and wonderful weekend when the whole of Dalt Vila turns into a recreation of mediaeval Ibiza. There are Arabic food stalls and entertainers and the most incredible food stalls. The atmosphere is beautiful and exotic and it’s like going back in time.
Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Ibiza.
MACE is my favourite museum on the island, and I love taking people there. It’s different from anything else in Ibiza and the modern art is mind-blowing. The building is so dramatic too.
Mercat Vell.
Just below the castle walls is the market where I get all my fruit and flowers for my shop and house. It is simply gorgeous and when you walk in it is so colourful and beautiful and smells amazing. I could live in there.
Annie’s Ibiza.
My shop below my house is my favourite place on the planet! Everyone in the street is so happy and there’s always something happening or a celebration going on. It’s an incredibly special place to live and work. I have a host of fabulous vintage pieces, couture, one-off finds and a whole heap of treasure. Come before supper to delight your senses!
