2023: The Hopes and Dreams of Ibiza’s Community

As we celebrate the arrival of 2023, L’OFFICIEL IBIZA asked the island’s international community what they’ll be dreaming of, wishing for and committing to this year.

Cala Llentrisca

Jana Sascha Haveman, founder, De La Vali

Along with world peace (got to keep wishing!) I wish to become more mindful in my thoughts and actions. In the current climate it’s important to pay attention on one’s own thoughts and create the most sane and happy space for one-self amongst the madness of the world. I’m also going to set myself the task of reading a book a month to feed my mind and finding the time to travel to new, faraway places. And to create more beautiful clothes to share with the world.

Guadelupe Revuelta, Ladypress PR

For the new year I wish health, serenity and love for my beloved ones, time to enjoy of the beautiful things of life, inspiration, and tons of fantasy to continue dreaming.

Sofija Mehta, Island Hospitality

As with every year I hope for more peace on earth for all beings and this year especially for equal rights for men and women. It’s devastating to see the injustice and what’s happening in Iran and Afghanistan.  Personally, for my life I wish to keep a good and healthy balance between work and private life. I wish to find a little more time for myself which includes also to finally become fluent in Spanish.

Cassady Sniatowsky, owner, Casa Lhasa

I hope that the same people who are super discerning in the provenance of their food would ask these same questions of their wine and other beverages. I’ve said before that wine is a stupid thing to kill the earth for and most regular wine has a negative impact on the soil and the environment. Personally, I would like to spend more time studying biodynamic viticulture and how to tend to vines here on Ibiza with as little intervention as possible.

Hjordis Fogelberg, author, My Ibiza and Formentera

As we stand on the threshold of the sixth mass extinction, I’m focusing on securing the health of the planet for the wellbeing of future generations. I hope for more love and empathy and less selfishness and consumerism. As well as world peace of course!

Nick Falke, photographer

I listened to a German podcast recently where they asked exactly this question to young kids. A five-year-old girl said: ‘I hope that all humans will live in harmony together again.’ Sounds cheesy but she nailed it.

Sonja and Jan van der Hagen, owners, Olivia’s Ibiza Kitchen

We hope to see the demand for local products, especially arts, crafts and farm products grow. We hope that everybody on the island is made aware of the variety and quality of what is made on Ibiza. We would like to commit to an Ibiza that is sustainable, creative, and joyful.

Gypsy Westwood, photographer

Procrastinating is a skill of mine. I want to turn this skill into being more present and mindful instead. This is work in progress. When I have learnt to be able to manage my time better, to be able to focus and have all this extra time (surely, no?!!) I yearn to get back to being more creative. Not just photography projects but painting, writing, making art. I spent much of my teens and early 20s doing just this and it’s like a meditation. I am also going to learn to use Adobe Illustrator and InDesign and too. And personally, I would also just love it if the world stopped being so selfish and got down with being kinder. One world. One love.

Bianca Pop, designer

I dream of harmony between the sky and the earth and I will manifest abundance for all living things.

John Beach, DJ

I'm going to continue with unlearning in 2023 myself and my children. It's a lot harder than learning.  I believe that manifestations are like dreams - if you speak of them, they fade – so I’ll keep them close at all times and focus on them in my mind every day. My hopes for 2023 are for more people to admit they have been lied to by a crumbling system and to wake the fuck up and woke the fuck down because the collective consciousness of love needs you.

Sophie Moss, Sabina Ibiza

The Sabina values are ecology, community, freedom and time, so we would like to hope and dream that the world can pull together to become more sustainable in the face of climate crisis; that the White Isle’s community thrives; that we all have the freedom to live our lives the way we want to and that we have the time to be at peace.

Niraj Naik, founder, Soma Breath

One of my ambitions when moving to Ibiza from Koh Phangan was to connect with great artists to uplevel the music that powers Soma Breath, a method of transformational techniques using music and breathwork that I founded five years ago. So, 2023 is all about making a great album as a music artist that brings Soma Breath to a new and wider audience. We did 11 retreats in the last year alone, so now I would like to find a year-round location to create a state-of-the-art wellness destination. I hope the launch of our own wellness fest in May will be a huge success and put Ibiza on the map as a premier wellness destination.

Eugene Tacheva, The Standard Ibiza

I hope to become a better person in every way possible. I want to be more helpful to those around me and do my part to make the world a better place. I also hope to continue learning and growing as an individual, both personally and professionally. I want to listen more and be more open to other's perspectives and experiences. And most importantly, I want to love more and show more compassion and kindness to those around me.

Erin Knowles, holistic retreat facilitator and life coach

Personally, I would like to spend the next year in a perpetual state of love. Globally, I hope that the truth comes out in the wash and people become empowered. I would also like to learn the guitar.

Ralph Moore, director, Acetate and editor in chief, Beatport.

2022 was a fantastic one for me: I interviewed Goldie, Nia Archives and Johnny Marr for Worldwide FM and even Zoomed for an hour with John Frusciante from the Red Hot Chili Peppers for Mixmag. 2023 promises more of the same with whisperings of my first book and a return to radio after the sad and sudden demise of WWFM. I’d like to spend more time away from my desk in 2023 so that first week in Ibiza with Cici for Circoloco and long beach walks at the start of Jan is hopefully a taste of (off-season) activities to come.

Lily Max, regenerative farming advocate

I hope that our amazing island farming community continues to work together to improve the regeneration of Ibiza’s land and increase the percentage of locally grown produce that is eaten on Ibiza. I commit to making and taking more time for myself, to creating a new project that fulfils me, a project that I will nurture and love, a project that will in turn care for me, in the spirit of reciprocity.

Maya Boyd, travel writer, author and editor.

I’m going to finish writing my next book about Ibiza and Formentera. I’m going to commit to more wild outdoor adventures and more sleeping beneath the stars. I’m going to learn to rock climb and in August I’m going to escape Ibiza and head for Yosemite and the great outdoors.

Merel Krielaart, World Family Ibiza

I dream of people becoming brave. I dream and hope that people will find their power: that they will wake up to all the infinite possibilities of life. I would like to manifest a place where normal people – not millionaires - can live here on the island freely. A big piece of land where many people can live in caravans, in yurts, in small dwellings – and in total harmony. A beautiful paradise created by us, with endless living possibilities for the island’s residents.

Stephanie Long Canavesio, psychotherapist

Individually and collectively, I wish to shed even more layers, letting go of more mental constructs and stories, and fully stepping into Presence. Presence being an alignment to who we truly are. Alert, awake, alive and taking 100 percent responsibility of our emotions. This is my wish for myself and for all of humanity. In this way we shift during this crucial time in history. This will only happen if we each wake up out of the mind and own who we are.

Jaime Fiorito, DJ

I would like to give more free expression to my art and not to limit myself to the current fashion/trends but to truly represent my own heritage and forms of expression. I want to commit to my work in the studio and to release my own music over the next few months.

Jade Gooding, digital entrepreneur

I intend to really nurture my No Mum is an Island platform, which supports mothers of strong willed and ADHD children and this year I will be running a support group for mothers of ADHD children in Ibiza. Ibiza has a hugely neurodivergent community which is why it is so rich in subcultures, the artists, DJ’s, parties, creatives. Many of those people know the harder side of neurodiversity: the mischief, the partying, the addiction, the chaos but now as they are getting older they are learning coping strategies, really embracing the creative elements and flourishing. Staying clean and sober, reviewing life's mishaps through a different lens and talking with others on the same journey.

Dipika Wishart, integrated mind-body medicine practitioner

For the times to come, I wish for us all to sense and know that - regardless of our external - we are at ease with ourselves in full acceptance of what is. I hope that we stay present in gratitude for what we do have because there is nothing missing. All is ok. I hope that we continue to trust our open giving heart in the spirit of generosity and community.

Scott Gray, artist and DJ

I hope that peace returns for the people of Ukraine. That migrants fleeing war torn countries are treated with dignity and compassion and that the women of Iran are given the rights they deserve elevated to the highest status. For me personally, I’m committed to kindness of action and thought. To continue creating art, music and good times.

Lindsay Jay, YogaFit Retreats and Flow Dance Meditation

This year it is my intention to surround myself with beautiful souls who inspire, expand and encourage me to keep leveling up.  I want to be in my breath and the present moment as much as I can. So I can strive to show up as the best version of myself for my son, family, friends, retreat guests and class participants. I am excited about continuing to practice and develop flow dance meditation and to really get out there and share this powerful practice with the world even more this year.

Melchior Arnold, quantum empowerer

My wish is that there be truth and clarity in the world, starting with the local and extending into the global. That there be freedom of speech and that there be tolerance and respect for each other - as in the word namaste.
