Ana de Armas turns into Marilyn Monroe for new film

Ana de Armas is impressive as Marilyn Monroe! The 34-year-old actress plays the late Hollywood legend in Netflix's upcoming film Blonde, based on the novel written by Joyce Carol Oates in 2000. According to the platform, the film boldly reimagines the life of Marilyn Monroe, exploring the division between your public and private self.

In the teaser we can see flashes of Ana as Marilyn in front of the cameras, recreating the famous moment of the white dress over a railing in the New York subway. The production's cast also includes Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams.

De Armas told Netflix Queue that the director wanted the world to experience what it really was like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane, her birth name. "I thought this was the most daring, unapologetic, feminist version of her story that I've ever seen," she said.

To become the most famous blonde in the movies, the star spent two to three hours in the chair doing her hair and makeup. "We worked on this film for hours every day for almost a year. I read Joyce's novel, studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, films - anything I could get my hands on. Each scene is inspired by a existing photograph," he explains.

She adds, "We pored over every detail of the photo and debated what was going on in it. The first question was always, 'What was Norma Jeane feeling here?' We wanted to tell the human side of her story."

The film arrives on Netflix on September 23.
