Thus spake M¥SS KETA. An interview in capslock.

On June 4th the Nameless Festival took place. Next onto Padua, Vulcano, Genoa, Bergamo, Hamburg and San Marco in Lamis, covering the most important summer music festivals stages. In May, her latest single "Profumo" was released, which is already climbing the charts. Between the serious and the facetious we amiably dialogued with Myss Keta (graphic rendering M¥SS KETA, ed), a character born in Milan in 2013 thanks to the work of the collective "Motel Forlanini" (Stefano Riva, Simone Rovellini, Dario Pigato, among the others). Her first single, "Milano, sushi & coca" was released in the same year and aroused great media attention for the topics covered. Over the years, Myss Keta has continued to make music and make public appearances, maintaining her anonymity and covering her face with veils and masks. She has released various projects, including the mixtape "L'angelo dall'occhiale da sera" in 2016 and the album "Una vita in Capslock" in 2018, followed by "Una donna che conta". In 2019, her second album, "Paprika" was released. In 2020 she then conducted the program "L'altro Festival" during the Sanremo Festival and released the EP "Il cielo non è un Limite" . In 2021 she won the "Celebrity Hunted: Manhunt" programme, which aired on Amazon Prime Video. In 2022 he released the single "Finimondo" and his third album "Club Topperia".

L'Officiel Italia: M¥SS KETA, let's start with a question that the whole fashion world has been asking for years: is Miuccia Prada still on her paycheck? If yes, can you give us other names?
M¥SS KETA: OF COURSE, DESPITE UPS AND DOWNS, ALWAYS REMAINS IN THE PAGE. I DON'T KNOW IF I CAN GIVE OTHER NAMES FREELY, I HAVE TO CONSULT WITH MY LAWYER FIRST.

LO: I see… Do you still have a few hits with La Signora and Donatella?
MK: YES, EVEN THOUGH I HAVE COMMITMENTS, FASHION SHOWS IN LOS ANGELES ETC, WE SEE EACH OTHER LESS. THE LAST TIME WE WENT OUT TOGETHER WE ATTEMPT TO ATTACK THE MADONNINA DEL DUOMO…

LO: Look M¥SS, getting personal, in 2023 do you feel more Giovanna Hardcore or fuller?
MK: WELL GIOVANNA HARDCORE IS FULL OF BASIC, SHE'S A HEROINE WHO NEVER STOPS FIGHTING AND ESPECIALLY IN THIS PERIOD THERE IS A GREAT NEED FOR IT. SO I WOULD SAY BOTH.

LO: And you know about fights against morality! Iconoclastic and surprisingly sinful, what does it mean for M¥SS KETA to be scandalous ?
MK: IT MEANS GUIDING THE EYES OF THE SPECTATOR AS YOU WISH TOWARDS YOUR SCANDAL, YOUR TRUTH.

LO: In your latest single “Profumo” there are references to the music of the 70s and 80s, like “Profumo di Mare” by Little Tony and “Okay Okay” by Pino d'Angiò. Brought to San Remo a beautiful cover of "It won't happen anymore" together with Elettra Lamborghini and it's from the year last "Finimondo", in which echoes a success of Edoardo Vianello ... To what extent yes does it relate to Italian pop music?
MK: I LOVE TO BE INSPIRED BY THE GREAT ITALIAN CLASSICS AND TO EXPLORE THEM IN A NEW KEY. IN PARTICULAR, THE ITALIAN POP MUSICAL LANGUAGE IS SO VAST AND RICH THAT IT IS AN INEXHAUSTABLE SOURCE OF INTERESTING IDEAS.

LO: What is the Italian song of those years that you listen to the most?
MK: WITHOUT A SHADOW OF A DOUBT "YOU BEGIN TO MAKE LOVE". IT'S MY WAKE UP TRACK!

LO: Speaking of Raffaella Carrà , you said she's a figure you are be inspired by…she was and is, as you would say, a woman who matters : between the musical repertoire and experience, what inspires you more and what should inspire the listening audience?
MK: I BELIEVE RAFFA WAS A UNIQUE ICON BECAUSE OF THE PROTAGONIST ROLE SHE HAD IN THE TELEVISION AND MUSIC WORLD, NOT LIMITED TO THE CLASSIC FEMALE AROUND FIGURE. AN INSPIRATION FOR ME AND ANYONE WHO HAS CHOSEN TO TAKE A JOURNEY IN HER FOOTSTEPS.

LO: Your latest single, “Profumo” just came out and is already climbing the charts, tell us a little about this single, what is the aesthetic it draws from?
MK: THE NEW SINGLE PERFUME DRAWS ON A "MEDITERRANEAN-CHIC" AESTHETIC, ALREADY ADDRESSED DURING THE EP "FROST CARPACCIO". IT'S AN AESTHETIC THAT REPRESENTS ME A LOT: SUMMER, FRESH, SPARKLING, REVITALIZING, IRONIC. IT TAKES AND REMAINS ALL THAT KIND OF IMAGE OF THE CHIC MEDITERRANEAN ISLANDS, BETWEEN CRAZY AND MYSTERIOUS PARTIES, WHERE THE NIGHT BLENDS WITH THE DAY. PARTIES THAT CONTINUE FOR ENTIRE DAYS BETWEEN INTERTWINING LOVES AND LOOKS UNDER THE UMBRELLA. IT IS DEFINITELY A VERY IMPORTANT ITALIAN POP IMAGINARY, WHICH COMES BACK EVERY SUMMER: AN ELEGANT IMAGINARY WITH WHICH MYSS PLAYS WITH AND TAKES ITS IRONIC VIEW FROM,  REMIXED IN ITS OWN WAY.

LO: Listen, would you like to tell us how M¥SS KETA was born? Tell us this fairy tale…
MK: M¥SS KETA WAS BORN FROM THE SPUM OF THE SEA, INDEED, FROM THE SPUM OF THE MILAN HYDROSCALO ON A HOT NIGHT IN AUGUST - THE YEAR WAS 2013 - AND FROM THERE, SHE STARTED TO MOVE AROUND THE WORLD WITH VORACITY, THE DESIRE TO TO HAVE FUN, TO PARTY, TO EXPRESS HERSELF, ALWAYS REMAINING HERSELF, TO CARRY HER MESSAGES INTO THE WORLD. AND FROM MILAN THIS SUMMER SHE WILL ARRIVE ON THE COASTS OF ALL THE ITALIAN ISLANDS!

LO: Which of these two definitions would you prefer for your music, songwriter-delusional or surreal queer?
MK: ABSOLUTELY SURREAL QUEER.

LO: Speaking of Queer, Pride month is coming soon, what wishes would you like to give to all the girls who read us?
MK: WE WELL KNOW THAT PRIDE, OR THE CELEBRATION OF THE PRIDE OF BEING OURSELVES AND LOVE WHO WE WANT, IS A MOMENT THAT SHOULD BE PRESERVED, PROTECTED AND RESPECTED ALL YEAR ROUND (WE SHOULD ALSO LEGISLATE THIS…). THE WISH I HAVE FOR ALL THE GIRLS WHO READ US IS THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO LIVE FREELY EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR, THAT THEY ARE ABLE TO ACCEPT THEMSELVES 100%, TO FIND PEOPLE WITH WHOM THEY ARE ABLE TO SHARE THEIR TRUE SELF WITHOUT HIDING: FOR ME THERE IS NOTHING MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN LIVING YOUR OWN PERSON WITH SINCERITY, IN AN OPEN MANNER, WITHOUT HAVING TO HIDE ANYTHING. WE MUST ACCEPT OURSELVES IN EVERYTHING AND FOR EVERYTHING, FIND PEOPLE WHO ACCEPT US AND LIVE ABSOLUTELY PROUD OF WHO WE ARE.

MK: I completely agree. Do you think that a few days ago talking to a female friend, we were told by a person that we were caricatures… I started talking about myself and with female friends (also) listening to her songs - and now I have to confess to her that I've been a fan of hers for a long time - in situations in which this shifts to a less serious level - and perhaps freer - the register of language. In any case, given that everyone speaks and defines themselves as they want, the diversity that she celebrates in her songs and with her being extremely unique in the music scene, what added value does it have in your opinion?
MK: IN MY OPINION, LANGUAGE, IN TERMS OF DEFINING ONESELF AS A PERSON, AS A THINKING SUBJECT AND NO LONGER AN OBJECT, HAS A FUNDAMENTAL IMPORTANCE. IT IS A VERY SERIOUS ISSUE, EVEN WHEN IT IS USED IN AN IRONIC AND AMUSING MANNER IN PLAYFUL MOMENTS LIKE THE ONE YOU DESCRIBED. IT BECOMES FUNDAMENTAL TO BE ABLE TO USE LANGUAGE AS WE WISH BEST TO DEFINE OURSELVES AND TO BE DEFINED BY THE WORLD AROUND US. FOR ME, LANGUAGE IS A FERTILE SOIL, WHICH MUST BE STUDIED; IT IS ALWAYS EVOLVING AND TOGETHER WITH IT WE EVOLVE AS PEOPLE. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THOSE WHO SAY THAT EVERYTHING MUST REMAIN AS IT HAS BEEN CODED FOR CENTURIES: I AM CONVINCED THAT WE LIVE IN A FLUID SOCIETY FROM ALL POINTS OF VIEW, EVEN LINGUISTIC. THE DIVERSITY I CELEBRATE IS THAT OF THE UNIQUENESS OF WHO WE ARE, OF FEELING TOTALLY OURSELVES, BEING PROUD IN DOING IT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE IN YOUR SHOES AND IN CARRYING YOUR MESSAGE INTO THE WORLD. IN THIS SENSE, FOR ME, DIVERSITY IS A VALUE: IT IS WEALTH, KNOWLEDGE, CULTURE; DIVERSITY IS THE LEVER ON WHICH WE STRENGTHEN US TO CREATE THE CHANGE WE WANT TO BRING INTO THE WORLD. I'M PLEASED THAT YOU TELL ME THAT I AM EXTREMELY UNIQUE IN THE ITALIAN SCENE, I BELIEVE IT'S BECAUSE I TRY TO ACCOMPLISH ALL MY MUSICAL AND VISUAL RESEARCH PURPOSES, TO GIVE MYSELF THE POSSIBILITY TO EVOLVE, TO BE MOBILE AND ELASTIC WITH RESPECT TO MY CHARACTER AND OF MY MUSIC.

LO: Question with a straight answer: Meloni, "doesn't it seem appropriate" or "is it scary because it's true"? MK: IT'S SCARY BECAUSE IT'S TRUE! DEFINITELY.

LO: What should a girl from Porta Venezia expect? MK: A GIRL FROM PORTA VENEZIA MUST DEMAND RESPECT!

LO: When is the next Myss album coming? MK: WHEN I EXIT FROM THE TOPPERIA CLUB!
