New year, new technologies? 2023 brings a host of technology trends that will shape the digital world. Check out 5 of them that companies should adapt to!

1. Domain of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

With its easy drag-and-drop interfaces, by 2023, no-code AI will be part of most organizations. Codeless AI, with its easy drag-and-drop interfaces, will enable companies to build smarter products and services. This trend can already be observed in the retail market.

For example, Stitch Fix makes use of AI-enabled algorithms to recommend clothes to its customers that match their sizes and tastes. Consumers benefit from the ease of paying for and receiving goods and services

AI also manages and automates complex inventory management processes, contributing to the trend of buying online and picking up and returning in store becoming the norm. It will be up to retail workers to adapt to working alongside machines.

2. Metaverse in reality

A more immersive web experience where you can work, play, and socialize on a persistent platform. Experts are betting on it, who predict that the metaverse will add US$ 5 trillion (R$ 26.54 trillion) to the global economy by 2030, with 2023 being the year that will establish the direction of the metaverse for the next decade.

There will be the advancement of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). a promising area    is the desktop in the metaverse, with the possibility of more immersive meeting environments.

Avatar technology — the presence we project when interacting with other users in the metaverse — will also be improved to look exactly like it does in the real world, as motion capture will allow our avatars to take on our unique body language and gestures.

Also notable is further development in AI-enabled autonomous avatars capable of acting as our proxies in the metaverse, even if we are not connected to the digital world.

3. Progressively editable nature

Nanotechnology makes it possible to create materials with absolutely new features, such as water resistance and self-healing capabilities. Thus, it allows edits to be made to materials, plants and even humans.

In 2023, the trend is for gene editing technology to accelerate to give us the increasing ability to modify nature through altering DNA.

Gene editing is a bit like text editing, where you can take out some words and add others, except that in this case you change genes to correct DNA mutations, solve the problem of food allergies, increase the crop health or even edit human characteristics like eye and hair color.

4. Quantum progress

Currently, there is a worldwide race to develop quantum computing at scale. Quantum computing employs subatomic particles to create new ways to process and store information. This results in computers capable of operating a trillion times faster than the fastest traditional processors available today.

However, there is a risk that quantum computing will break current cryptography practices. Consequently, any nation that develops quantum computing at scale will be able to break the encryption of other nations, companies, security systems, and much more. This is a trend that is getting attention in 2023, as countries like the US, UK, China and Russia have invested money in developing quantum computing technology.

5. Most human-like robots

By 2023, robots will be even more human-like, both in appearance and capability. They will be able to be used as event hostesses, bartenders, concierges and senior caregivers, as well as being able to perform complex tasks in warehouses and factories while working alongside humans in manufacturing and logistics.

In September 2022, at Tesla AI Day Elon Musk announced two prototypes of Optimus humanoid robots and revealed that the company would be ready to take orders in the next 3 to 5 years. The robot is able to perform simple tasks like lifting items and watering plants.
