Interview with Dasha Popova "My dream? To live in the 90s"
Dasha Popova: Model, journalist for "Voice" and shopaholic, gives style advice.
Dasha Popova is a Russian model who writes for Voice magazine about fashion. She offers style advice, creates shopping lists, covers vintage and reviews the latest collections. Although she believes that the moments experienced are more important than the clothes worn, she admits to being a shopaholic: "My eyes sparkle when I see 'that hat' or 'that bag'." She fondly recalls the day her mother bought her lilac leather shoes during her first year of university: "I studied at a fairly simple university in Krasnodar, where there weren't many fashionistas. Walking down the street, I felt proud and super stylish..." Dasha began her modeling career by entering beauty contests during her university years, eventually walking on the most prestigious catwalks in her country. "I think beauty has always played an important role," she says, reflecting on the importance of appearance in her work, "but it's essential to have confidence and continue to work on yourself, constantly. A model should have many passions besides fashion, because this is reflected in the work, it gives much more expressiveness, character. The eyes are the mirror of the soul, after all. " Acknowledging that much has changed since the era of supermodels, Dasha says that "living in the 90s would be a dream. I love that strong, sensual and emotional presentation of the models of those times, independent and sensual women at the same time." A taste of that era still lives on in the fashion shows of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, which Dasha had the opportunity to get to know during the Alta Moda show in Puglia in 2023, and which she saw again in Sardinia this year.
