When the sink is covered in dishes again or the familiar chair is barely visible because of the clothes, everyone asks themselves how important it really is to get rid of this mess. Often it doesn't bother you that much, does it? Maybe not at first glance, but it has many advantages: a tidy apartment makes it possible to find things more quickly, promotes concentration and well-being and ensures an orderly world of thoughts. However, it can often be overwhelming when you have a big mess in front of you and don't know where to start and that's why we want to help you with that.

1. Clear out what you don't need

True to the motto: Everything takes up space, whether mental or physical, is essential for a tidy apartment, and only owning what you really use and need. A closet full of clothes that are rarely worn is more difficult to keep tidy than the amount of clothes you have. It's best to sort things out regularly and make sure that too much useless stuff doesn't pile up.

2. The right organisation system

Labels, organisation systems, preserving jars, boxes, drawer dividers, etc. help to create and maintain order. Without such aids everything would be all over the place; they make everything easier, faster and, above all, more efficient. In addition, such a system can be an eye-catcher, such as preserving jars for pasta, rice, etc.

3. Store in cupboards

Everything looks much neater when the stuff can be hidden behind cupboard doors. That doesn't mean that it's okay to banish the disorder à la out of side out of mind, but rather it's about creating an orderly overall picture. Organisation systems can be easily installed in the cupboards or drawers in order to maintain an overview.

4. Adapt to lifestyle

Place items that are used often so that they are easy to get to and don't have to search for. Keyword: convenience. This is very individual and only you can decide what needs to go on the desk or what belongs in the drawers. The general rule is to keep things that you often need within easy reach and store other things away.

5. Everything needs its own place

Everything is easier with control - including household maintenance. If every item has its own place, it won't lie around. This makes tidying up much easier and, more importantly, you can find everything without having to search too hard. For example, it alone makes a difference whether the remote control is lying around somewhere or constantly on the coffee table. Of course, there are also things for which it is difficult to find the one place or the one system for it, the if-not-there-then-there drawer is the solution: a drawer that catches everything that would otherwise be out there would be distributed throughout the apartment.

6. Clean everything up straight away

When everything already has its place, the next challenge is to avoid piling it up. This means: clean everything up after use. Sometimes it can be tiring to always put everything away, but once it becomes a habit, it makes your life a lot easier. Clutter tends to accompany clutter, don't give it time to develop and spread. In addition, a large mountain of dishes piles up faster than expected and can later become even more overwhelming because of the size, which you should avoid at all costs. It also saves time because you no longer have to take extra time.

7. Never leave empty-handed

Another strategy to avoid accumulation is to proceed gradually. So always take something with you when you leave the room. Whether it's a cup, a piece of paper or something else, the main thing is that it doesn't sit around for long and has the potential to accumulate. This habit also protects them from being overwhelmed because it allows them to clear the mess step by step.

8. The right planning and routine

When you have a lot of tasks coming at you at once, it can be overwhelming at first, which is why proper planning is the be-all and end-all. Whether there is a fixed clean-up day a week or everything is spread out is up to you. The important thing is to create a routine that fits into your everyday life and is optimal for you.

9. It's the little things

For a general order, the little things are at least as important as the things that are initially obvious. A lot here revolves around the overall picture and its effect, which is also made up of the inconspicuous. So remember to fluff your pillows, put your books in the right place or fold your clothes neatly.

10. A pinch of fun

Try not to see tidying up as a burden. Of course, it can seem like a chore, but it doesn't have to be! Enjoy the moment of peace and its meditative effect or take the opportunity to listen to a podcast or audio book that you have wanted to listen to for a long time. The goal is to find joy in it and to combine order with fun.
