Jackie & Andrés, Ibiza, October 2024

A very Balearic love story – Jackie and Andrés’ sunset ceremony at Unio.

DJ Trujillo - real name Andrés Astorga - is a Venezuelan-born, Berlin-based DJ and producer known for blending diverse sounds, especially drawing on Venezuelan cultural influences. His music combines Venezuelan traditional rhythms with electronic beats, and he recently released an album titled Cosmic Caribe, a homage to Venezuelan music and culture, using local samples mixed with live instrumentals. Additionally, his compilation of Balearic synth-pop classics - Ritmo Fantasía, spotlights rare Spanish tracks from the 1980s and early 1990s.

Released in 2021 by Soundway Records, it brings together genres like synth-pop, Balearic, boogie, and house music, reflecting Spain's evolving musical landscape during that era. This album features largely undiscovered Spanish gems that mirror the laid-back yet energetic spirit of Balearic music, a genre often associated with the Ibiza club scene.

When Jackie, a self-confessed ‘super-fan’ first met her idol, it was love at first sight. ‘My friends and I would go to all his concerts. We were obsessed. When Andrés and I finally met, there was a very strong instant connection, but it wasn’t the right time for either of us. We had to try to let it go.’ Fast forward seven years and the pair met once more by chance, and tried to plan a date, but Andrés was headed back to Berlin and once more it didn’t happen.

Another eight years passed with no contact until last year, when a chance encounter in Caracas last year led to a romantic rooftop date and an instant relationship. It’s a modern-day love story with its roots in shared passion for Balearic music, romance and the enduring allure of Ibiza, so when the pair decided to tie the knot, Ibiza was the obvious choice.

The duo’s wedding last week took place overlooking the mystical rock of Es Vedrà, at the low-key, elegant hotel Unio. Guests included fellow Balearic DJs Jaime Fiorito and Camilo Miranda, while the bride wore a simple ivory silk gown by the designer Armando Piquer in honour of the barefoot, magical essence of Es Vedrà.
