For Sotheby's latest auction, philanthropists, artists, and entrepreneurs Jan & Maria Manetti Shrem are selling 17 specially selected works from their collection. The two have always held a passion for the arts, so much so that they opened an award-winning art museum in San Francisco meant to inspire the next generation of young artists with teachings by some of the industry's top artists.

Especially for Manetti Shrem, the multi-creative always held an appreciation for art from a young age, inspired by art's many forms. A Florence native, Manetti Shrem found great success in the fashion world after eventually moving to America, due to her vast knowledge of Italian style. It was through her expertise that Italian brands such as Gucci and Fendi found a way to capture the attention of the American consumer and later on become global phenomenons.

A true philanthropist at heart, Manetti Shrem always wanted to use her success as a platform to serve a greater purpose and would devote her life to backing many charitable causes. Over the span of their careers, Jan & Manetti Shrem have supported over 40 charitable initiatives in the realms of fine arts, medical research, music, and education.
