Rankin presents "Leaps in time" the new exhibition of the British photographer with Leica
The Ernst Leitz Museum will present the works of Rankin from 26 May to 27 September 2023. For the occasion, the new issue of HUNGER magazine was published, edited and photographed entirely by the photographer.
Provocative, iconic and irreverent. Rankin's photographs from the last three decades will star in the new exhibition Zeitsprünge (Leaps in time) at the Leica Ernst Leitz photography museum in Wetzlar, Germany from May 26 to September 27, 2023. The exhibition will include pop photographs from fashion shoots made by the British photographer, often with Leica 8 cameras that made the exhibition possible), as well as series of conceptual images and portraits of stars. Zeitsprünge (Leaps in time) is a leap in time where the 90s and 2000s enter into dialogue and intertwine with unpublished images from 2023. Portraits of famous people from politics and entertainment: Rankin has photographed various personalities such as Queen Elizabeth II , designer Vivienne Westwood, actor Ewan McGregor, model Heidi Klum and artists Björk and Oasis, to name a few. Passionate about communication and publishing, Rankin founded Dazed & Confused magazine with Jefferson Hack in 1991, a unique magazine of its kind - for the times - which brought together different genres such as fashion, graphics, design and photography. She later released her own fashion magazine, Rank in 2000 and Hunger magazine in 2011. He has also been producing TV movies and countless music videos for years.
Coinciding with the opening of the new exhibition in Wetzlar, the new issue of HUNGER magazine, "Timeslice", came out on May 24, 2023. The issue is a collector's edition in its own right, edited and photographed entirely by Rankin, celebrating the magazine's editor-in-chief's continuing legacy. The novelty and leitmotif of the entire magazine will be the photos taken on a white background of leading figures in the sector and young emerging artists. Cover star is Lily Allen, but inside are artists like Sugababes, English actor Will Poulter. Some images, such as the portrait of Lisa Vacari and Sibyl Buck, will be featured both in the magazine and in the exhibition. An invitation to dive deeper into the incomparable world of Rankin.
